Esta es una crónica de las actividades realizadas en mi viaje a la República Dominicana del 10 septiembre al 8 de octubre del 2023. Este viaje fue planeado para participar en las celebraciones del 100 aniversario del nacimiento del Prof. Eugenio de Jesús Marcano Fondeur.
This is a chronicle of the activities carried out during my trip to the Dominican Republic from September 10th to October 8th, 2023. This trip was planned to participate in the celebrations of the 100th anniversary of the birth of Prof. Eugenio de Jesús Marcano Fondeur.

El comienzo de la “semana de Marcano”. Se commemora el día del fallecimiento del Prof. Marcano. El “Jardín Botánico de Santiago Prof. Eugenio de Jesús Marcano Fondeur” celebró una misa para iniciar la semana.
The beginning of “Marcano’s Week.” It commemorates the day of Prof. Marcano’s passing. The Botanical Garden of Santiago held a mass to kick off the week.

Lunes y miércoles octubre 2 y 4
Visitamos el Instituto de Investigaciones Botánicas y Zoológicas (IIBZ) de la UASD. La directora del Instituto, Bióloga Ruth Bastardo mos dio un tour de las diferentes colecciones de plantas, insectos, fósiles y animales, muchas de ellas iniciadas por el Prof. Marcano. Llevamos muestra de una especie de Musgo colectado por el Prof. Marcano en 1967 y el estudiante de biología Cristopher Jiménez inició el proceso de identificación del especimen. Se han establecido planes de colaboración para la re-emisión de la publicación científica Naturalista Postal y donación de especímenes colectados por Marcano.
También visitamos el local de la antigua oficina del Prof. Marcano y antiguo local del IIBZ, La Cueva. Actualmente es un almacén de la imprenta de la UASD. Al frente hay un pequeño monumento del momento que se nombró la calle como “Prof. Eugenio de Js. Marcano” y una plantita raquítica de Pereskia marcanoi.
We visited the Institute of Botanical and Zoological Research (IIBZ) at UASD. The director of the institute, Biologist Ruth Bastardo, gave us a tour of the various collections of plants, insects, fossils, and animals, many of which were initiated by Prof. Marcano. Collaboration plans have been established for the re-issuance of the scientific publication ‘Naturalista Postal’ and the donation of specimens collected by Marcano. We brought a sample of a moss species collected by Prof. Marcano in 1967, and biology student Cristopher Jiménez initiated the process of specimen identification.
We also visited the former office of Prof. Marcano and the former location of the IIBZ, La Cueva. Currently, it serves as a storage area for the UASD’s printing press. In front of it, there is a small monument commemorating the moment when the street was named “Prof. Eugenio de Js. Marcano,” and a small, struggling Pereskia marcanoi plant.

Jueves 5 de junio
Visitamos la biblioteca del Instituto Politécnico Loyola (IPL) y se donaron copias de los libros recientemente publicados y otros libros de la colección de la familia Marcano-Martínez. También se realizó una entrevista para la emisora Magis del IPL.
We visited the library of the Polytechnic Institute Loyola (IPL) and donated copies of the recently published books and other books from the Marcano-Martínez family collection. We also conducted an interview for the Magis radio station at IPL.
